LIFT
LUG INSTRUCTIONS
FOR
INSPECTION, INSTALLATION & USE of LIFT LUGS
1. Tapped holes must be
fully tapped, clean, and dry prior to installation of a Lift Lug.clean, dry
threads).
2. The Shoulder of each Lift Lug must always bottom out
squarely and firmly against the face of the die shoe or surface of material in
contact with the Lift Lug being installed.
3. The load to be applied must be perpendicular to the axis of the Lift Lug.
4. The Weight of the Load Cannot Exceed the Lift Lug Maximum
Load Capacity stamped on the end of the lug.
5. Lugs MUST BE securely & adequately tightened so as not
to loosen or back off.
CAUTION: Lift Lugs, like other threaded products, may loosen and fail if not
adequately tightened!
(If you choose to Tighten to a Torque Spec, see Chart Below showing suggested
Torque Values for each size)
6. When used for lifting, the load on each lug Must Not exceed
the maximum load specified for that model.
See Maximum Load Chart below
7. Lift Lugs MUST NOT be used or exposed to environments
exceeding 700 degrees Fahrenheit (F).
8. LIFT LUG INSPECTIONS: (Also consult all applicable Laws and
Standards for additional Inspection & Testing requirements)
REGULAR INSPECTIONS Required: It is
recommended and required that Lifting Devices such as Lift Lugs be inspected
visually prior to use, during each shift and/or at least daily, whichever is
most appropriate and applicable to your operation. Lift Lugs are to be
inspected for evidence of cracking, wear, deformation, heat, chemical exposure,
abuse, fatigue or other elements not specified that would contribute to
weakening and/or degradation and suspected thinning of the shaft of the Lift
Lug. The following Maximum Wear Chart indicates shaft wear tolerances for each
model. If the Lift Lug is determined to be weakened, defective or unsafe for
any reason, or the shaft is found to be at the minimum shaft diameter, that
Lift Lug must be removed from service immediately. See Maximum Load Chart
below.
ANNUAL INSPECTIONS Required: It is
recommended and required that Lifting Devices such as Lift Lugs be inspected
Annually, or more frequently as required by laws and standards, using magnetic
particle inspection, dye penetrant and other industry accepted and approved
non-destructive testing methods, equipment, practices and procedures testing
for evidence of items such as cracking, wear, deformation, heat, chemical
exposure, abuse, fatigue or other unsafe elements or conditions not specified
that would contribute to the weakening and/or degradation of the Lug. All
defective, weakened and/or unsafe Lift Lugs are to be removed from service
immediately.
Any Lug failing Regular or Annual
Inspections or testing failure requires the lug to be removed from service
immediately.
